Quetta, Feb. 4 : A day after a senior official of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), John Solecki was kidnapped, unidentified miscreants abducted six more persons belonging to an oil and gas exploring company in Machh (Balochistan) on Tuesday.

According to The Nation, six personnel of a private company were on their way in a vehicle in Margat, when unknown armed persons intercepted their vehicle and drove them to an unknown location.

(UNHCR).

John Solecki, head of the UNHCR in the southwestern city of Quetta, was abducted by unidentified gunmen who killed his driver and took him away to an unknown location, said police and UN officials.

Quetta, Feb 2 : A senior official of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been kidnapped on Monday in Quetta, the largest city and the provincial capital of the Balochistan Province of Pakistan.

According to initial reports, unknown persons opened fire on the car of head of UNHCR Balochistan John Solecki as soon as he left the home for office.

Syed Hashim Raza, the driver of Solecki has been killed in the incident whereas attackers abducted John Solecki.

Senior police officials have reached the scene after the incident, The News reported.

Police have cordoned off the area and launched search operation for the recovery of the UNHCR official.

Quetta, Jan. 25 : After putting numerous restrictions on women in the Swat Valley, the Taliban influence is increasingly posing a threat to the freedom of women across the rest of Pakistan.

Recently, a number of restaurants in Quetta have stopped servicing female customers under pressured from religious hardliners, who have the support of the Taliban, the Daily Times reports.

A number of popular eateries have put boards that say, "For gentlemen only. Women not allowed." Earlier some of these restaurants were very popular among women in Quetta.

Quetta, Nov 26 : Pakistan Senate’s Standing Committee on Interior has reportedly admitted the presence of ‘countless hidden torture cells’ across the country, and called for jail reforms to shut these cells.

Addressing a press conference, Committee Chairman Talha Mahmood said the ‘torture cells’ were being maintained by intelligence agencies.

Quetta, Sept 29 : At least 25 tribesmen and three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed during the last two days of fighting in Gundoai area of Dera Bugti district, security forces said here last evening.

They sources said that rocket launchers, mortars and heavy machine-guns were used in the fighting which had begun on Saturday and continued till Sunday afternoon. “We have information that 25 militants have been killed in two days of fighting,” a the Dawn quoted security official as saying.
