Amritisar, Jan 12: Vice President Hamid Ansari will inaugurate the fourteenth National Youth Festival here today.

It is the first time that National Youth Festival would be held in Punjab till January 16.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will preside over the function. Dr. M. S. Gill, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports and Gulzar Singh Ranike, Sports Minister, Punjab , will be the ''Guests of Honour'' at the function.

Abohar/Ludhiana, Jan. 7 : Punjab, which has produced many national and international sportspersons, holds a big pool of talent in its rural areas. With proper training it could be harnessed to represent the country.

Amritsar, Jan 5: The 343rd birth anniversary of the 10th Sikh Guru Sri Guru Govind Singh is being celebrated today with great fervour.

Devotees began thronging at the ''Golden Temple'' here to pray and to listen to Shabad Kirtans.

" We celebrate this day as ''Gurupurab''. A religious procession is taken out on this occasion, devotees sing religious hymns. It is a secular day and people from all walks of life take part in the celebrations," said Surinder Singh, a devotee.

He was well known for his ice cream colours, however there was always something very serene and peaceful about his figures and that’s how on Monday morning, 67-year-old Manjit Bawa left everyone silently after a cardiac arrest as he lay in a coma that had struck him three years ago.

He was born in the year 1941 in the Dhuri village of Punjab. Bawa rose to celebrity status with his unique style in figurative art, using clean lines, strong colours and flat tones, the reason why his work stood out from that of his contemporaries who concentrated on using subdued colours.

A team of 28 gymnasts-cum-dancers from Denmark recently gave a scintillating performance during the Indo-Danish Fest held at Partap College of Education in Ludhiana.

The performers brought the Danish culture alive before the Ludhiana audience and won hearts through their precise movements in rhythmic gymnastic skills, dance, artistic vaulting and tumbling.

Villagers at Lakhe Ke Uttar, a kilometre from India-Pakistan border, say nothing can make them leave their homes.
