Gunbattle on between terrorists-Army in Poonch On Monday the gunbattle between security forces and terrorists entered its fifth day in Poonch.

For the last 15 hours there’s been continuous firing between security forces and a group of terrorist.

The operation to find nearly six to eight terrorists hiding in the forests near the Line of Control commenced on Sunday. Furthermore, in order to prevent the terrorists from escaping, the area has been cordoned by the security.   

Encounter continues in Poonch, one more SPO killed

KashmirPoonch, Jan 3 : A Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed in an encounter between militants and security forces in Bhati Dhar forest area of Mendhar in Jammu and Kashmir''s Poonch District on Saturday.

According to official sources, SPO Naresh Kumar was killed in an encounter, which was resumed around midnight.

An encounter has been going on for the last two days in the area.

JCO Rakesh Kumar and Naik P K Singh, and four militants were killed in a gunbattle, which started on Thursday evening.

Security beefed up in J-K’s Poonch ahead of assembly polls

Leh, Jammu and Kashmir, IndiaPoonch (Jammu and Kashmir), Nov 8 : Security has been beefed up in the border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, ahead of the seven-phase polls beginning from November 17.

Soon after the announcement of the election dates, the Election Commission had said that there would be a massive deployment of security forces across the region during the polls.

Around 70 companies of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed in Poonch District alone.

Kashmir residents welcome increase in frequency of bus service to PakistanPoonch (J-K), Sept 17: Residents of Kashmir have welcomed the increase in the frequency of a bus service between Poonch and Rawalkot.

The fortnightly service has now been converted into a weekly one.

Welcoming the move for better people-to-people contact, the residents said they also hoped the time-consuming process of getting traveling documents would be made simpler.

Poonch-Rawalakot bus service begins

Poonch (J-K), Mar 13: About five dozen people crossed the India-Pakistan border on the Poonch-Rawalakot bus service on Wednesday to meet their relatives on either side of Kashmir.

"We appreciate that we have got this chance to go there. We applied two years back and we have got the chance now," said Abdul Karim, a Pakistani Kashmir.

Poonch District authorities ensured adequate security for the passengers and their relatives.

Launched in June 2006, this second bus service between the two countries has been much welcomed by Kashmiris on either side of the Line of Control (LoC).

A bus service connecting Srinagar and Muzaffarabad was launched in 2005.
