Malakand Taliban willing to reconcile if Pak Govt ensures ‘true Shariah’ implementation

Peshawar, Oct 6 : Maulana Fazlullah-led militants have agreed to negotiate with the Pakistan Government on the condition that it ensures the implementation of ‘true Shariah’ in the country’s Malakand division.
Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had said recently that his administration was ready to hold negotiations with all militant groups in the tribal belt along the Afghan border.
Taliban denies secret channels of talks with UN

Peshawar, Mar. 21 : The Afghan Taliban has rejected former UN Envoy to Afghanistan, Kai Eide’s claims that talks with its leaders were on before the arrest of Mullah Ghani Barader, the Taliban’s second in-command.
A self-proclaimed spokesman of the Afghan Taliban Muhammad Yousaf Ahmadi told the Afghan Islamic Press that none of the Taliban leaders had ever met Eide or any of other US official.
Radio Pakistan cancels VOA’s Pushto broadcast following Taliban threat

The VOA launched its Pushto-language radio station, ‘Deeva Radio’, in 2009, targeting audience in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and other tribal areas.
“The Radio Pakistan central management ended its agreement with the VOA in light of the terror threats and political pressure, as many local listeners went to the (print) media to force the government to cancel the agreement,” The Daily Times quoted a senior producer at Radio Pakistan Peshawar, as saying.
JI blames RAW, Blackwater for Karachi violence

Peshawar, Feb. 7 : Pakistan’s Islamist political party, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), has blamed both the controversial private US security firm, Blackwater, and Indian intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) for the continuous violence in Karachi.
JI chief Siraj-ul-Haq said both the Blackwater and the RAW were responsible for the wave of target killing in the country’s financial capital.
Addressing a press conference here, Haq said : “Like Kashmir is the backbone of Pakistan; similarly, Karachi plays the role of backbone in the country’s economy.”
Swat-Taliban chief’s mother, teacher denounce terrorism

Talking to reporters at the Swat Media Centre, Fazlullah’s mother said that she has not been in touch with her son for three years, and that she is unaware of his whereabouts.
She claimed that her son would not surrender to the forces even if she ordered him to.
“I know if I ask him to lay down arms and surrender before the security forces, he will never obey my orders,” The Daily Times quoted her, as saying.
Pak claims concrete evidence of RAW’s involvement in ongoing terror spree

Peshawar, Dec. 28 : Pakistani authorities are claiming to have garnered concrete evidence to prove Indian involvement in a series of terror attacks across the country.
The nation quoted various government and defence sources as saying that the Indian intelligence agency RAW has sponsored a number of terrorist activities in Pakistan including the one at Meena Bazaar in October last and the terrorist attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore this year.
Hovering American B-52 warplanes cause panic in Pak’s tribal areas

Peshawar, Dec. 28 : The continuous hovering of America’s heavy bomber aircraft, B-52 – capable of carrying nuclear and conventional weapons – has caused panic among residents of Pakistan’s Tribal Areas.
The Nation quoted sources as saying that B-52 warplanes and US drones have been hovering over Waziristan and Kurram Agency for the last several weeks.
The US Air Combat Command’s B-52 is a long-range, heavy bomber that can perform a variety of missions.
Blast in Peshawar

Islamabad, Dec 22 - Several people were injured when a loud explosion rocked Peshawar Tuesday, Geo TV reported. Some people could have also died in the blast near the Press Club in Saddar area, police sources said.
Police sources said the explosion has also shattered the windowpanes of Press Club Building. Rescue efforts have started and injured people are being shifted to hospitals for medical treatment.
Taliban blow up two government schools in Khyber Agency

Peshawar, Dec. 9 : Two boy’s schools were blown up by the Taliban in Khyber Agency on Wednesday.
According to officials, the attack took place in Bara town, situated 20 kilometres south of provincial capital Peshawar.
The blast was so powerful that it destroyed the two school buildings completely, but luckily no one was hurt in the incident.
“Both main school buildings were completely destroyed,” The News quoted Shafeerullah Wazir, the top administrative official of Agency, as saying.
‘Wary’ ISI shifts Peshawar office to “safe house” after terror strike

Peshawar, Dec. 8 : Pakistan’s premier intelligence agency, the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), has secretly moved its base from Peshawar to another safe location following last month’s devastating bomb attack on its office in the provincial capital.
According to sources, the ISI has shifted its office within the cantonment area after its building was completely destroyed in the terror attack last month in which 13 people were killed and over 15 suffered grievous injuries.
US to train NWFP cops on counter-terrorism

Peshawar, Dec. 7 : The United States will train North West Frontier Police in counter-terrorism at what is being touted as Pakistan’s biggest police training centre.
The centre, which is yet to be set up, will be situated in Hund area of Swabi District, a source privy to developments told The Nation.
He said that local as well as American instructors would impart training to police staff ranging from constables to deputy superintendent of police, superintendent of police and deputy inspector generals.
Suicide blast outside Peshawar court kills 3, injures 20

Peshawar, Dec. 7 : A bomb blast outside a court in Peshawar killed three people and injured 20 others on Monday, police say.
The News quoted senior police official Mohammad Karim, as saying: "The blast took place at the main gate of the Sessions Court killing two people and wounding over 20 others."
The injured have been taken to the Lady Reading Hospital, he said.
Police is yet to ascertain the cause of the blast that happened at Jail Road in busy area of Peshawar.

Al-Qaeda leadership in Quetta, claims US diplomat

Peshawar, Dec. 5 : While the US has been raising concern about the presence of top Taliban commanders in Pakistan, it has now claimed that some Al-Qaeda leaders are also hiding in Quetta, capital of Balochistan.
Addressing media persons here, the US consul-general in Peshawar, Candace Putnam said there are intelligence inputs which shows that some Al-Qaeda leaders are sitting in Quetta.
Two killed, seven injured in Peshawar blast

All injured have been admitted to the to Lady Reading Hospital, where a state of emergency has been declared. There were also reports of some people being stuck in the rubble.
The nature of the blast, which occurred outside a restaurant, is yet to be ascertained.

Two injured in Peshawar blast

The remote-controlled device was planted near a school and a power pylon in the congested Rasheedabad area. It went off when station house officer Riaz-ul Islam, accompanied by his police guard, was driving to his office in his private car, Online news agency reported
Several injured in Peshawar car bomb blast

Peshawar, Nov. 26 : Several persons were injured in a car bomb blast which occurred near a private school in Charsadda area of Peshawar early on Thursday morning.
Security officials cordoned off the region and injured were admitted to various hospitals across the city, The News reports.
Eye-witnesses said the bomb was planted in a car which was parked near the school.
The blast, which is believed to have been triggered off by a remote control device, was so powerful that it destroyed several vehicles parked near by and damaged electric supply lines in the area.
People suffer as sugar prices sky rockets in Peshawar

Peshawar, Nov 22 : People in Peshawar are finding it tough to cope up with the rising price of daily commodities, and the sharp rise in Sugar price, one of most important daily eatable, has made the matter worse.
Sugar is being sold at a whopping 80 rupees per kilogram in the provincial capital, sending the family budget into a tizzy.
People blame hoarders and black marketeers for the crisis, which has forced consumers to cut down the daily use of sugar.
The condition is so bad that some people have even cut down consumption of tea.
