Nitish Kumar asks for more relief from Centre

Nitish KumarPatna, Sep 2 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on today asked for more central assistance for providing relief and rescue operations to the victims of devastating flood in the state.

Kumar, who met Union Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrashekhar and his team, said the state government has formed a high level team under Development Commissioner to undertake rehabilitation of people, displaced by ravaging Koshi river which breached embankment at Kushaha in Nepal on August 18.

Lalu lambastes Bihar Govt for laxity in relief measures

Patna, Sept 2 : Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav on Tuesday lambasted the Bihar Government for laxity in providing relief to the flood victims.

Addressing media here, Lalu Yadav said the Cemtral Government is committed to bail out the people of the flood affected regions from the crisis.

Exodus continues from flood-affected Bihar

Saharsa/Patna/New Delhi, Sept 1: People continue to flee flood-affected parts in Bihar for safer places, even as the authorities have stepped up the tempo of relief work.

At a railway station in New Delhi, hoards of migrants were seen on Sunday, sitting with their families and whatever they could collect in the name of belongings.

Recounting his harrowing experience, Mohammad Jabbar of Supaul District, where water breached the walls of thousands of dwellings, said that they first took the news of the floods in the region as a hoax.

Bihar floods: Kosi breaches Jankinagar canal in PurniaPatna, Aug 31: Adding vows to the already devastated Bihar flood victims, the swollen Kosi River breached its embankments of the Jankinagar Branch Canal (JBC) in Purnia district on Saturday night. 

With reported discharge of around 2.5 lakh cusec of water into the river from Nepal, the Kosi broke through its eastern embankment at Jankinagar.

According to official sources, the flood water was fast submerging villages in Dharhara Kothi, Dhamdaha and Bhavanipur blocks of the district.

Floods and exodus continue in Bihar

Bihar FloodPurnia/Patna, August 30 : Fury of floods continues in Bihar forcing the people to shift to safer areas as they complain of lack of relief and rehabilitation.

The people of Madhepura district of the State, where about a million people are caught in the web of floods, complained on Saturday that the government is not providing relief to the victims.

“There has been no relief from the government. There are no medical facilities and the hospital and the police station are left locked,” said Mukesh Kumar, a flood victim.

Rescue and relief operations intensified in flood ravaged Bihar

Manmohan SinghPatna, August 29 : Rescue and relief operations have been intensified in flood ravaged Bihar as millions await evacuation from the region.

More than 125,000 people have been reportedly evacuated from the flood hit areas so far, there are a million others who are still awaiting succor and relief across over 15 districts presenting a very grim situation.

Local media channels on Friday said that around 120,000 people have been shifted to safety.
