Islamabad, Apr 22 : NWFP Governor Owais Ghani has briefed foreign diplomats at the Foreign Office on the deal with militants in Swat.
“The problem [afflicting the region] lies in Afghanistan and unless you settle the issue there, it will be difficult to create peace in Swat and other border regions of Pakistan,” Ghani said.
The Daily Times quoted diplomatic sources as saying that the Governor explained at length the situation in Swat and the latest peace deal with the Taliban to implement the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation.
Lahore, Apr 22 : Buner, the neighbouring district of Swat, has fallen into the hands of the Taliban with militants belonging to the organisation patrolling markets, villages and towns in the district.
Led by Fateh Mohammad, the militants were asking local people, particularly youngsters, to join them in their campaign to enforce the Sharia.
Taliban militants, who had sneaked into the Gokand valley of Buner on April 4, were reported to be on a looting spree for the past five days. They have robbed government and NGO offices of vehicles, computers, printers, generators, edible oil containers, and food and nutrition packets.

Mingora, Apr 22 : Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has said that they are ready to welcome Osama bin Laden in Swat, and added that they are not bound to honour the peace accord between the government and cleric Sufi Muhammad.
Pak Taliban said the NWFP Government had signed the deal with Tehreek-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Muhammadi and not with the Taliban, a private TV channel reported.
“Osama Bin Laden was welcome in Swat. Yes, we will help them and protect them,” Taliban spokesman Muslim Khan said.
Islamabad, Apr 22 : Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has said that it had nothing to do with parliamentary elections being held in India, and dismissed reports of its militants entering Jammu and Kashmir.
The chief spokesman of Tehreek-e-Taliban, Haji Muslim Khan, strongly refuted reports that the Taliban had entered Jammu and Kashmir.
“We fail to understand why India has unleashed a propaganda that the Taliban had entered the Kashmir Valley. By such tactics, India wants to harass Kashmiris,” he said, adding that they only wanted to enforce the will of Allah (Islam) all over the world.
Peshawar, Apr 22 : The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has warned Shangla district lawyers of serious consequences if they continued to appear in un-Islamic courts (civil and district courts) from Wednesday.
“Lawyers are warned through this notice not to appear before civil and district courts,” a member of Shangla District Bar Association (SDBA) quoted the letter, as saying.
The lawyers have suspended a bar election scheduled for April 30 due to the letter, he said on condition of anonymity.
