Pak senators want review of peace deal with Taliban in Swat

PakistanIslamabad, Apr 23 : Pakistani senators have asked the PPP-led Government to revisit the NWFP Government’s peace agreement with the Taliban in Swat and also review Islamabad’s role in the US war on terror.

Debating on President Asif Ali Zardari’s address to the joint sitting of Parliament, the lawmakers said the federal government should ensure implementation of the recommendations of Parliamentary Committee on National Security.

The members also demanded of the government to review its foreign policy in the light of recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee, The Nation reported.

The Pakistan Prime Minister's Advisor on Interior Affairs, Rehman Malik told Senate members that New Delhi is backing the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) to cause disturbance and ignite insurgency in the region.

"Militant organisation raised by Russia during the Afghan war is now being backed by India," Malik said.

Clinton objects to Pakistan's policy on extremists

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham ClintonWashington  - US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Wednesday that Pakistan's policy of ceding territory to Islamic extremists poses a serious threat that cannot be overlooked.

During testimony before the foreign policy committee in the House of Representatives, Clinton called on Pakistanis "to speak out forcefully against a policy that is ceding more and more territory to the insurgents, to the Taliban, to al-Qaeda, to the allies that are in this terrorist syndicate."
