Indo-UK joint military exercise in Ladakh is illegitimate: Pak FO

Islamabad, Sep 25: The Pakistan Foreign Office has said that the ongoing joint military exercise between India and the UK in Ladakh is illegitimate.

Pakistan has lodged a formal protest with the Government of both the countries, as Ladakh is a part of the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir, Foreign Office (FO) spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam told reporters.

“This is not a legitimate activity because Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory and more than anybody else the British should be aware of it,” Aslam said.

Islamabad, Sep 25: Pakistan’s Supreme Court (SC) has observed that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) could not act as court and strike down any law.

The nine-member bench of the SC headed by Justice Rana Bhagwandas was hearing the Constitutional petitions challenging President Pervez Musharraf’s dual offices. The apex court dismissed three of them.

The bench asked Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Malik Qayyum why the disqualification clauses meant for a parliamentarian’s election could not be applied to the presidential poll.

US, EU concerned over arrests of Pak opposition leaders

Islamabad, Sep 25: The United States and the European Union are concerned over the recent arrests and detention of leaders of the opposition parties ahead of the presidential election on October 6.

A US embassy statement stated that reports of the detention of the leadership of several major Pakistani political parties are "extremely disturbing and confusing" for the "friends of Pakistan".

Karachi, Sep 23 : Pakistan’s Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani has accepted that the real opposition in the country is the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and said that the members of the All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) are "paper parties."

Durrani said that the APDM has announced its resignation 25 times, let’s see what happens the 26th time.

"The APDM was formed to break the Opposition and the ARD. There are aggressive members and there are political member in the APDM and their differences are showing," he added.
