Kerala Government Launched A New Health Scheme

CPI-M-led LDF government in Kerala has taken a major initiative for providing Kerala Government Launched A New Health Schemehealth facilities to the poor sections of the society. They launched a scheme of Rs 65-crore, which includes free treatment of children who are suffering from cancer. 

In a press conference, Health Minister P K Sreemathi said the main objective of our scheme was to provide security to destitute, children, women, poor old-persons and people suffering from cancer. Out of Rs 65 crore, Rs 15 crore would be set apart for the treatment of children suffering from cancer.

Kerala police file first case against children for abandoning motherKollam (Kerala), Sep. 30 : Kerala Police in Kollam district has recently made first arrest in a case against six siblings under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 for allegedly neglecting and abandoning their widowed mother, who is 74-year-old.

The case is first of its kind under the Act.

Mercy Killing Should Be Legalized: Kerala Law Reforms Commission

Kerala Law Reforms Commission has presented a proposal, which recommends Mercy Killing Should Be Legalized: Kerala Law Reforms Commissionthat euthanasia or mercy killing should be made legal in the state. The proposal also suggests deletion of Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code which holds attempt to suicide as an offence. The panel was headed by retired Supreme Court judge V.R. Krishna Iyer. 

Antony to present scooters to disabled soldiers in Kerala

A K AntonyThiruvananthapuram, Sept. 22 : Defence Minister A. K. Antony will handover the keys of specially altered scooters to disabled veterans at the RDR Auditorium in Idapazhanjy on September 27.

Antony will also address army veterans.

On September 27 evening, the army''s motorcycle stunt team, "Shweta Ashwa" and three military bands will perform at the Chandrasekhar Nair Stadium, while on September 28, the army will exhibit some of its equipment, including a T-72 battle tank, on Shangumugham Beach.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army will recruit soldiers from seven districts in Kerala from September 25 to October 5.

Navy Chief visits Southern Naval Command

Kochi, Sept 17 : Chief of Naval Staff and Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee Admiral Sureesh Mehta will arrive at Southern Naval Command in Kochi today.

The Admiral would be received at INS Zamorin, Ezhimala by Vice Admiral Sunil K Damle, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Southern Naval Command.

On completion of a review of the important Naval Academy project there, Admiral Mehta would arrive in Kochi on Thursday afternoon, where he would be briefed on the various developmental and operational activities of Southern Naval Command.

The Navy Chief will address the officers of Southern Naval Command on September 19 after which he is slated to visit Cochin Ship Yard Limited.
