Milan - The Milan-San Remo cycling race that starts on Saturday is being held for the 100th time and for the anniversary a special guest will be competing: Lance Armstrong.

The seven-time Tour de France winner, who last year announced that he would be staging a comeback after retiring at the end of the 2005 season, has so far this year participated in the Tour Down Under in Australia and the Tour of California.

Maranello, Italy - Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has slammed the rule changes introduced by motorsport's governing body, FIA.

Earlier this week FIA said that the world championship would be decided on the number of victories. They also announced a budget cap, to which the Formula One teams had earlier agreed.

In a statement published on the Ferrari website di Montezemolo said that it was absurd to make such changes at this stage.

Rome - Former Argentine striker Abel Balbo has quit the coaching job at struggling Serie B side Treviso after clinching a single point from four games, Italian media reported.

Luca Gotti, 41, Thursday took back the job he had left to Balbo, 42, in a controversial switch in late February.

Rome, Mar. 19 : The Vatican has moved quickly to calm feelings aroused by Pope Benedict XVI's comments on HIV and the use of condoms ahead of his visit to Cameroon and Angola,

The Pope said that the "scourge" of HIV could be made worse, not better, by the distribution of condoms.

France, Germany and Belgium criticized his message as irresponsible, while the UNAIDS agency said condoms were a vital part of the battle against HIV, which infects more than 7,000 people a day, reports The Guardian.

Rome - A Genoa fan who a month ago was run over by a coach carrying visiting Fiorentina supporters has left the intensive care unit, but remains in hospital and unable to speak, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported Wednesday.

Gabriele Amato, 36, was among a group of people who on February 15 surrounded a coach carrying visiting fans as it left the Genoa stadium.

Some home fans were enraged after Fiorentina clinched a last-gasp 3-3 draw after coming from three goals down.
