Islamabad, Apr. 20 : Former Pakistan President General (r) Pervez Musharraf has claimed that no child or woman was killed in the controversial military operation conducted in Lal Masjid in 2007.
"It is time to end the lies. Those who say women and children were killed and several hundreds died in the Lal Masjid operation are telling white lies. Only 94 people were killed and all of them were terrorists and extremists. Not a single woman or child was killed," the Dawn quoted Musharraf, as saying.
Islamabad, Apr. 20 : With the Taliban establishing total control over the Swat Valley following inking a deal with the government to implement Islamic law in the whole region, fears have heightened that Islamabad could be the next target of the insurgents.
A report in the Washington Post suggests that the Taliban has arrived on the doors of the country's capital, and is on the lookout for a right opportunity to strike.
Islamabad - Two separate bombings Saturday killed at least 31 people, including 25 soldiers, in Pakistan's restive north-western region, police officials and media reports said.
A suicide car bomber ploughed his explosives-laden car into a security wall around an army post when a military convoy was passing by in Doaba town in the restive Hangu district in North Western Frontier Province (NWFP).
"It was a suicide bombing. The deaths of 25 security personnel and two civilians have been confirmed," said Deputy Superintendent Police Farid Khan.
Islamabad, Apr. 18 : The Taliban in the Bajaur region of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) has asked the tribal elders, who had opposed their activities, to seek pardon and give undertakings that they would speak against Taliban's act in future.
"Those elders who approach Taliban will be granted clemency. And those who do not approach, they will not be pardoned," Taliban's Bajaur chapter spokesman Maulvi Omar said.
Islamabad, Apr. 16 : After publicly executing men, women on charges of having illicit relations, the Taliban has now taken up the job of arranging marriages too.
According to a BBC report, the insurgent group has set up a `marriage centre' in Swat for those boys and girls who want to choose their life partners according to their own will, but their family members are against it.
