 Abducted polling officials rescued after night-long gunbattleLatehar (Jharkhand), Apr 17 : The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Friday rescued six abducted polling officials after an overnight gunbattle with the guerrillas.

The officials, including two state police constables, were kidnapped on Thursday from Kumanuli village.

According to officials, naxals kidnapped the polling officials when they were on their way to their respective polling stations.

Save the earth campaign on horseback in Madhya PradeshIndore, Mar 7: Nine riders on horseback made a record attempt, riding non-stop for 24 hours on Friday here to urge people to save earth.

"The riding club undertook horse riding to give the message to the people that if they want to save the earth, they should make all possible efforts to save water and trees," said Achal Chaudhary, chairman, Indore Public School Academy.

The men on horseback rode within a circle of 300 metres, with the riders and the horses taking a break for half-an-hour every three hours.

Arjun Singh lays foundation of IIT in Indore

Arjun SinghIndore, Feb 17 : Union Human Resources Development Minster Arjun Singh on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Simrol here.

Simrol is about 25 kilometers from Indore.

With the opening of this institute, Indore has now become the first city in the country to have both an IIM and an IIT.

The institute will be opening on 525 acres of land at Simrol.

IIT Mumbai''s Director and Registrar in the same capacities will look after IIT Indore as well.

State Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will preside over the function.

With the opening of this institute, Indore will be the first city in the country to have both IIM and IIT.

The seven other new IITs have been set up in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat, Orissa (Bhubaneswar) and Himachal Pradesh.
