 Protest against engineer’s abduction in ManipurImphal (Manipur), Mar 11 : A Joint Action Committee (JAC) has launched an intensive sit-in-protest over the abduction of an assistant engineer of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD).

Mohammed Liyaqat Ali was abducted on March 3.

JAC members along with the engineer's relatives staged the sit-in-protest before the heavily guarded Public Works Department Complex, where the IFCD is located.

Barbers agitate in ManipurImphal : The killing of a 22-year old barber by unidentified gunmen has spared off agitation in the capital of the State.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Suresh Thakur and Raj Kumar Choudhury at Sagolband Ingudam Leikai and Kwakeithel Bazar in Manipur recently.

It is suspected that Suresh Thakur, a 22-year-old barber was shot dead inside his hair-cutting saloon by miscreants who came to the saloon on the pretext of having a haircut.

Raj Kumar Choudhury, an 18-year-old sugarcane juice seller, was also shot dead the same day.

Four militants killed in Manipur encounterImphal, Mar 7 : Four militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Irilbung village here on Saturday.

Police said that four heavily armed militants from the People's United Liberation Front (PULF) were shot dead near Irilbung village, about 15 kilometres from Imphal.

Curfew relaxed for ten hours in violence-hit Imphal

Imphal, Feb 24: Curfew has been relaxed for ten hours in Imphal from 7:00 a. m. on Tuesday morning.

The bodies of the three slain officials, which were lying at the mortuary of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences since February 17, were cremated last night.

According to sources, State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh is scheduled to meet Home Minister P. Chidambaram today in connection with the killing.

An indefinite curfew was imposed on Thursday following violence by the locals protesting against the murder of three State Government employees in Ukhrul district by some unknown miscreants.

Curfew relaxed for eight hours in violence-hit Imphal

Manipur, ImphalImphal, Feb 23 : Curfew has been relaxed for eight hours in Imphal from 9:00 a. m this morning.

Arrangements are being made to hand over the bodies of the three slain officials which were lying at the mortuary of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal, since February 17.

Post mortem of the bodies has already been performed.

However, bodies are yet to be received by the families seeking for a combined cremation of the three bodies.

Curfew continues in violence-hit Imphal

Imphal, Feb 21 : Manipur capital Imphal was under indefinite curfew continues for a third day Saturday in the wake of violent protests by the locals. The protestors were against the murder of three state government employees in Ukhrul District.

On Friday night, State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh met leaders of the Joint Action Committee who held the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Isaac-Muivah - NSCN (IM) and the Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul region responsible for the killing of the employees.

The Joint Action Committee has submitted a charter of demands to the chief minister, which includes immediate prosecution of the former Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul, the arrest of culprits and the release of three government employees.
