Kaspersky calls for internet "identity cards" Hanover, Germany - One of the world's top anti-malware developers has called on the first day of the CeBIT computing trade fair in Germany for all online users to have a sort of "identity card."

Eugene Kaspersky said Tuesday tougher regulation was needed to at least reduce online crime, even if the crime could not be wiped out. That would mean cyber-police and all internet users making themselves identifiable.

Kaspersky founded Kaspersky Labs, a respected Russian maker of anti-virus software.

Intel sets out plans for low-power chips, tie-up with Taiwan

Intel-logoHanover, Germany - Intel set out in Hanover Tuesday plans to invest massively in low-power semiconductors as well as a joint venture between the world's biggest chipmaker and a Taiwan company.

Christian Morales, who heads Intel's European operations, said there would be a big expansion of the Atom semiconductor line, which analysts say have roughly half the performance of the Intel Celeron chips used in desktop computers.

Staff and students of the Hasso Plattner Institute, which trains software designers in Potsdam, near Berlin, and Palo Alto, California, are to be given a succession of tasks all week, with each to be solved in 24 hours.

Schwarzenegger turns on charm at CeBIT computer trade show

Arnold-SchwarzeneggerHanover, Germany - The six-day CeBIT computer trade show began Tuesday in the German city of Hanover with former movie star and current Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger spreading his charm as special guest.

The Gubernator toured the fair, which has honoured his state this year as its partner. Makers of software, computers and communications gears from round the globe show new products at the fair.

Schwarzenegger was accompanied by Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Fujitsu to run India sales from Germany

Fujitsu.Siemens.logoHanover, Germany - Computer manufacturer Fujitsu is to direct its future sales in India from its Munich, Germany offices, the company said Monday on the eve of the CeBIT trade fair.

The shakeup follows the Japanese company's purchase from Siemens of Germany last November of the remaining 50 per cent of the Germany-based company Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

It paid 450 million euros (570 million dollars).

From next month, the "Siemens" part of the name will be dropped and the company will function as the European arm of Fujitsu.
