The 39th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2008 was inaugurated by Rekha on Saturday. Goa Governor S. S. Sidhu, Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Anand Sharma attended the opening ceremony.
The 11-day festival will be showcasing nearly 200 Indian and foreign films from 12 countries. The festival opens with Peter Chan's "The Warlords", a Chinese war epic set in the 1860s.

Iranian film, 'The song of the sparrows', directed by Majid Majidi will be the closing film for the ten-day festival.
The 39th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will start from November 22 in Goa. During the film festival, 200 films in various sections from dozen countries will be screened.
The "competition" section will include two Indian entries - S. Priyadarshan's Tamil film "Kanchivaram" and Ramesh Laxman More's acclaimed Marathi film "Mahasatta" along with 13 other films chosen from Bangladesh, Russia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Iran, the Philippines, Argentina, China and Japan.
