China Banishes Canadian Poultry Imports

Beijing: A recent report has showed that China has banished Canadian poultry imports after the bird flu detection on a farm in west Canada.

The report also said that the prohibition covers up all poultry and related products. It also orders the return or annihilation of poultry products imported after September 23.

All Canadian poultry products, which must move across China en route to other nations also, must be banned.

Hu for China opening-up, but maintaining its economic security

New Delhi, Oct.1 : Chinese President Hu Jintao is all for his country's economy opening up to the outside world, but has also called for a stronger economic security system.

Presiding over a group study of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, Hu was quoted by the Xinhua news agency as saying that the government must monitor economic security situations better, give early warnings, and respond to the crisis, as and when it arises.

China, he said, must protect and safeguard its assets and citizens abroad.

China facing tough battle against cyber crime

New Delhi, Sept. 28 : China’s Ministry for Public Security appears to be facing a tough battle in tackling cyber crime, especially during the past three years.

According to The China Daily, ministry officials remain unoptimistic about their ability to tackle online theft and fraud, and are demanding the introduction of legislation on cyber crime and the protection of virtual property.

China’s Three Gorges Dam, a disaster in the making, say officials

London, Sept.27 : Chinese Communist Party officials have warned that the Three Gorges Dam project has the makings of a major environmental catastrophe.

In an unprecedented admission of blame, the officials called for the urgent introduction of preventive measures.

China has been promoting the world’s biggest hydroelectric project as the best way to end centuries of floods along the basin of the Yangtze and to provide energy to fuel the country’s economic boom.

Stone Age rice field discovered in swamp in China

Washington, Sept 27 : Archaeologists have discovered a Stone Age rice field in a swamp in China.

The team led by Cheng Zong of Britain’s Durham University found evidence of prehistoric rice cultivation, including flood and fire control on the site of Kuahuqiao in Zhejiang province near present-day Hangzhou.

The research follows previous excavations at the site that revealed a Stone Age community of wooden dwellings perched on stilts over the marshy wetlands.

China bans sexually suggestive ads on radio, TV

New Delhi, Sept.26 : China's broadcasting watchdog has banned all sexually suggestive advertising on radio and television.

Commercials featuring sexually suggestive language or behaviour or featuring scantly dressed women were "detrimental to society," the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) said in a circular on Tuesday.
