Bangladesh tightens security for parliament after mutiny Dhaka  - Authorities in Bangladesh Friday beefed up security at the parliament building and its premises following last week's troop mutiny in central Dhaka that left 71 people, including scores of military officers, dead.

"We have also asked the security agencies to improve the entire security system for parliament," Abdus Shahid, the chief whip of Bangladesh parliament told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa after a special meeting with the top security officials.

Pakistan, BangladeshDhaka - Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday postponed the tour of Pakistan cricket team for an indefinite period by government advice over security concerns, officials said.

"We have decided to postpone the tour following advice from the home affairs ministry," Jalal Yunus, the spokesman of the BCB, said without elaborating the present security situation.

Bangladesh-Dhaka MapDhaka - The Bangladesh army on Tuesday launched an independent probe into last week's troop mutiny, a day after the government reconstituted a civilian body for the inquiry, officials said.

A senior army officer, Lieutenant General Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, accompanied by a number of junior officers, visited Bangladesh Rifles headquarters, where mutineers killed at least 74 people, mostly mid-ranking and junior army officers, to collect evidence related to the carnage.

A statement by a spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China said: "As a friendly close neighbour, the Chinese side hopes Bangladesh enjoy political stability, economic development and social harmony."

Conveying sympathies to the family members, the statement also said, "We hope and believe that with the joint efforts of Bangladesh government and people, Bangladesh can maintain peace, stability and solidarity."
