Culling process in Assam to be over todayGuwahati, Dec 19 : The culling process of poultry in the bird flu affected areas in Assam is expected to be completed by this evening.

The disease has been identified in 12 locations in seven districts in the State.

According to State Director of vetenary Dr. Aswani Katoky, except few areas of Kharghuli, Sirang and Bongaigaon districts, culling has been completed in all other locations.

Around 450 thousand poultry birds have culled so far in the state. The affected districts will be kept under surveillance for at least three months to prevent recurrence of the bird flu.

First phase of culling operation completed in Assam

First phase of culling operation completed in AssamGuwahati, Dec 17 : The first phase of culling operation has been completed in the bird flu-affected Kamrup, Nalbari, Barpeta and Dibrugarh districts of Assam.

One lakh more poultry birds are to be culled in these areas during mopping operations, which has already been taken up.

Culling operation in Sarpara, Patgaon and Raja Bazar areas of Kamrup district has been completed.

No fresh report of spread of the disease has been received from anywhere in the State.

Rugby gaining popularity among Assamese youth

Rugby lovers from different parts of the State recently participated in a State level selection Rugby camp held in Guwahati.

Organised by Rugby Association of Assam, the Rugby camp offered a new hope to the local footballers to create a niche for them in the state.

assamGuwahati, Dec. 16 : Ceasefire-bound militant groups, academics and social activists recently called a convention `In Search of Peace' at the Guwahati University, which called for an end to violence in the State.

Organised by the Peace and Conflict section of the University''s political science department, the conclave had representatives from tribal and student organizations, including the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU).

Bird Flu Outbreak In Assam; Culling Of Poultry BeginsThe Assam Government has declared a high alert following the rapid spread of deadly bird flu outbreak to newer areas in the state.

Thus far, seven Assam districts, which include Nalbari, Barpeta, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Kamrup (rural) and Kamrup (city) have been hit hard.

According to officials, mass culling of poultry has begun in these areas, and around 40,000 poultry birds will be culled by the end of this week.

Bird Flu Virus Spreads To More Areas In Assam

Bird FluThe deadly bird flu virus has taken more Assam regions under its jaws although more than 200,000 poultry birds have been culled during the last two weeks.

New bird flu cases have been detected at Khanapara in Guwahati, Dikom region of Dibrugarh district in Upper Assam and Bejera area of Kamrup district.

The districts witnessing the bird flu outbreak include Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup (Rural), Dibrugarh, Nalbari, Barpeta and Chirang.
