Peshawar, Sept 19 : A senior Al Qaeda commander, said to be an Arab, was reportedly killed in yet another US drone attack, this time on a remote village in South Waziristan Agency, last evening.
Besides, six others, including one more Arab, were also killed in the drone attack.
The two Arabs were identified as Jiran, the al-Qaeda commander, and one Sabri, said sources close to the tribal militants.
US unmanned aircraft continue to hover over Pakistan territory despite Army Chief-level talks between the two sides held on Tuesday, after which America had said in a statement that it would “respect Pakistan’s sovereignty”.
Nouakchott - The al-Qaeda terrorist network on Wednesday claimed responsibility for an attack on a Mauritanian military unit three days ago.
In a letter published on Islamist websites, al-Qaeda claimed the "jihadist brigades of Yahya Dshawadi, Prince of the Desert" had assaulted the soldiers near Zouerat in northern Mauritania and taken two of them hostage, among them a captain.
Initially, 12 soldiers had been reported missing after the attack.
Kabul - An Afghan district governor along with his two bodyguards were killed mistakenly by NATO-led Australian troops in southern Afghanistan while five police officers and three Taliban militants were killed in a clash and a roadside bombing, officials said Thursday.
Rozi Khan Barekzai, governor of the Chora district in Uruzgan province, was called Wednesday to a friend's house in Trin Kot, the provincial capital, because the friend believed his house was surrounded by Taliban militants, said Gholub Wardak, the province's deputy police chief.
"Actually the man's house was surrounded by Australian forces, and when Rozi Khan and his men arrived there, the foreign forces mistook them for Taliban and opened fire at them," Wardak said.

According to Christopher Hitchens, important circles in Pakistan have never given up the aspiration to run Afghanistan as a client or dependent or proxy state, and this colonial mindset is especially entrenched among senior army officers and in the Inter-Services Intelligence agency.
Miranshah, Sept 18 : Despite the talks between top US military man Admiral Michael Mullen Mullen and his Pakistani counterpart Ashfaq Kayani to resolve the US’ unilateral strikes issue, spy planes were seen hovering over North Waziristan early morning today.
Drones appeared over Ghulam Khan, Saidgai, Danday Darpakhel, Miranshah, Mir Ali, Razmik, Datakhel and Hanzwani areas of North Waziristan, causing panic and tension among the people, The News reported.
Besides, drones were also seen patrolling over some areas of South Waziristan.
Landi Kotal (Pakistan), Sept 18: The Pakistan unit of Taliban, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has reportedly killed an Afghan national who, according to them, used to spy on them for the United States forces in Afghanistan.
The Afghan national who was killed in Khyber Agency was identified as one Zainullah, the Daily Times reported.
After killing him, the Taliban dumped his body near the Government Degree College in Landi Kotal.
A native of the Afghan province of Nangarhar, Zainullah had been living in Malagori area of Jamrud tehsil, the Daily Times reported.
