Real secure Cristiano Ronaldo on six-year deal
London - Cristiano Ronaldo will officially become a Real Madrid player on Wednesday after the player's move from Manchester United for a world-record transfer was made official.
The 80-million-pound (94 million euros) deal makes Ronaldo the world's most expensive player and means the four biggest signings in the history of the game have all been made by the Spanish giants.
After Real announced the final agreement late Friday, Manchester United said on its website the sale would be completed on Wednesday July 1.
"Cristiano Ronaldo's departure is all but done and dusted after Real Madrid and Manchester United finalised the agreement for his transfer on Friday evening," the United website said.
"The Portuguese winger was the subject of a world record 80 million pounds offer from the Spanish club on Thursday 11 June. He has since been on holiday but a return to work with new employers now beckons, with the sale set to be completed on Wednesday 1 July."
Ronaldo will sign a six-year contract and be presented at the Santiago Bernabeu on July 6, Real said on its website.
The deal ends one of the longest-running transfer sagas in recent football history. It means that Real have broken the world record transfer fee of 71.6 million euros the club paid Juventus for Zinedine Zidane in 2001.
Real had also set the record fee of 61.4 million euros paid to Barcelona in 2000 for Luis Figo, while Ronaldo's transfer follows the 65 million euros recently paid to take Kaka from AC Milan - transfers all sanctioned by president Florentino Perez.
Perez is determined to build a star-studded team capable of challenging European champions Barcelona, and is rumoured to have up to 300 million euros to spend on signings.
He is also is determined to "hispanisize" Real, by bringing in top Spanish players, and the club is close to a deal with Valencia on signing defender Raul Albiol for 15 million euros.
In his first spell as Real president, from 2000 to 2006, Perez only bought one Spanish player, right-back Sergio Ramos from Sevilla, and 17 foreigners, including "Galactico" stars Figo, Zidane, Brazilian striker Ronaldo and David Beckham.
The club is now looking to offload several players to help refinance the purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Argentina striker Javier Saviola is on his way to Benfica for 5 million euros, while British media last week said all Premier League clubs had received a fax from Real with a list of other players on sale.
It reportedly includes all the Dutch players that Real signed in the past three years: Royston Drenthe, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael van der Vaart, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Klaas
