President visits Mumbai

President visits MumbaiPresident Pratibha Patil arrived in Mumbai on Monday on a two-day visit in the wake of the terror strike in the city.

She visited the J J hospital and enquired about the health condition of the injured in the blasts.

President is also scheduled to go to the residences of slain ATS chief Karkare and encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar.

Patil conveyed her condolences to the victims and said the incident was "an act of terrorism committed by those who have no respect for human life."

In an official statement, Patil said the armed and trained terrorists deliberately targeted innocent lives to cause panic, to disrupt normalcy, to inflict damage and to hamper the progress of the country.

"The brave men of the defence forces, the security personnel of NSG and Maharashtra Police who fought valiantly against the terrorists and those among them who lost their lives in the line of duty deserve the nation's gratitude," the statement said.

The President is likely to hold a meeting with state officials at the Raj Bhavan. on Tuesday.
