New Delhi, Apr 13 : President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have greeted people on the occasion of Vaisakhi today.

In their separate messages they have expressed hope that this festival will bring peace, happiness and prosperity to the people and the Nation.

Manmohan Singh has also extended his greetings to the people on Mesadi, Vishu, Vaisakhadi and Bahag Bihu.

Vaisakhi or Baisakhi, a seasonal festival popular in the Punjab takes place on the first day of the solar month of Baisakh. Traditionally, the festival was celebrated as the harbinger of happiness and plenty closely connected with harvesting.

The Sikhs everywhere celebrate Baisakhi enthusiastically as birthday anniversary of the Khalsa. Community meals form part of the celebrations. (ANI)
