PPP leader claims pro-Musharraf elements may be behind PM life bid
Islamabad, Sept 5 : Senior PPP leader Syeda Abida Hussain has said that the Wednesday’s assassination bid on Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani could be the handiwork of “pro-Musharraf elements” who, according to her, were not happy over the ouster of former president.
She said that it was during the period of Pervez Musharraf that commitments with regard to the war on terror were made.
“It was during this period that an amount of 45 billion dollars came into the country and some people got fiscal gains beyond their imagination. Such people would never like their chief patron out of power,” The News quoted her as saying in a TV interview.
Abida said that after the presidential election when the political system in the country would become stable, things would gradually begin to settle down.
“The political leadership will, of course, think of some amicable solution to the ongoing law and order situation besides restricting the foreign forces from taking action inside the Pakistan territory,” she said, adding that the political leadership would have to create a difference between the policies of a dictator and that of an elected government.
“The democratic government should take all the stakeholders on board in policymaking,” added Abida. (ANI)
