Islamabad, Nov 20 : The caretaker government of Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro has reportedly denied bullet proof vehicles to four former Cabinet ministers.

Former Information Muhammad Ali Durrani, Religious Affairs Minister Ijaz-ul-Haq, Petroleum Minister Amanullah Khan Jadoon and State Minister for Interior Zafar Iqbal Warriach had applied for the bulletproof vehicles, citing the dangers faced by them in moving freely in public.

“The fears of Ijaz-ul-Haq and Zafar Iqbal Warriach make sense in the wake of the Lal Masjid operation, but the phobic disorder of Petroleum Minister remains unanswered,” The Nation reported.

According to the daily, the Interior Ministry has prepared a summary in the security requirement of ex-ministers, which is yet to receive the nod of Soomro.

“Ministry of Interior should have asked all former Ministers for their security demands before forwarding this summary to the PM office so that it can avoid partial approvals from the Prime Minister,” a ministry official said.

The government has so far provided bulletproof vehicles and security escorts to former Prime Ministers Shaukat Aziz, Benazir Bhutto, PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Leader of the House in Senate Wasim Sajjad on their requests.

Four other former federal Ministers who are enjoying the facility of bulletproof vehicles are Aftab Ahmed Sherpao, Amir Muqam, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Faisal Saleh Hayat.

“It is an ample proof that the former government and its ministers are still enjoying the power and there is a partisan caretaker setup. I ask if any opposition leader demands the same security, would the government behave in the same manner,” questioned PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal. (ANI)
