Polling progresses steadily in J-KSrinagar, Nov 17 : Polling is progressing peacefully for the first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

Voting is taking place in ten constituencies spread over four districts of Bandipora, Poonch, Leh and Kargil.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure free and fair polls. Brisk polling was reported in Leh and Kargil districts.

As many as 77 votes were polled at the polling station set up in Indoor stadium, Kargil, while 65 votes were cast at higher secondary school, Kargil within minutes of the start of polling. In Leh, polling was going on a slow pace.

Similar reports were received from Zanskar and Nobra assembly constituencies.

In Bandipora voting began on a dull note due to severe cold.

Of the 1038 polling stations, more than half have been described as ''hyper sensitive'' while the rest have been placed under ''sensitive'' category. The seven-phase assembly polls are expected to draw over 65 lakh voters at 8,000 polling stations in the state. (ANI)
