Eleven Bolivians die after being intoxicated with pesticides La Paz  - Eleven people died in southwestern Bolivia while they slept at a rural lodge that was also being used as a pesticide deposit, police said Tuesday in the Bolivian province of Chuquisaca.

The dead - including one boy and three women - were peasants from the Japo K'asa, some 720 kilometres southwest of La Paz, who had opted to sleep there en route to Sucre. They were carrying agricultural produce from the Nor Cinti valley to market.

The lodge held bottles of chemicals that are used as pesticides.

German state to advance loans for new synagogue Potsdam, Germany  - One of Germany's 16 states is to lend the Jewish community money to build a synagogue in Potsdam, the old royal city that is now an outer suburb of Berlin, officials said Tuesday.

The community will be asked to repay the cost from donations after the 5-million-euro (6.5-million-euro) house of worship is completed at the end of 2012. The state of Brandenburg is to donate a plot of land in the heart of Potsdam, which is its state capital.

Russian gas from Ukraine reaches Czech RepublicPrague  - Russian natural gas flowing via Ukraine reached the Czech Republic on Tuesday, nearly two weeks after a shutdown of supplies forced the country to tap its underground reserves, a gas importer said.

Martin Chalupsky, a spokesman for the country's dominant gas importer and distributor, RWE Transgas, said that "the first thousands of cubic metres" arrived in the Lanzhot border station shortly after 6 pm (1700 GMT).

Yemeni tribesmen free kidnapped German oil expert Sana'a, Yemen  - Yemeni tribesmen freed a German oil expert and his Yemeni companions on Tuesday, two days after they kidnapped them in southern Yemen, Yemen's state news agency reported.

The agency quoted an Interior Ministry source as saying that the freed hostages were expected to arrive in the capital Sana'a late in the day.

A security source close to the negotiations with the kidnappers, however, told Deutsche Prsse-Agentur dpa that the hostages have not been handed over to the government.
