Police Investigating Case in which Bicyclist was Struck and Killed by Truck

A bicyclist who was hit by a truck on Friday at 7am at Beacon Street and Massachusetts Avenue was a great Swiss surgeon and medical researcher, said her colleagues and friends. Police said that they have found the truck and its driver and investigation in the matter is taking place.

Dr. Anita Kurmann, 38, was an endocrine surgeon who came from Switzerland three years ago to carry out research at Boston University and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on transforming embryonic stem cells into functional thyroid tissue.

Anita was planning to move back to Bern and continue her surgical practice and also wanted to set up a research lab there by the end of this year. Police said that it has been trying to know what actually happened on that day.

Dr. Darrel Kotton of Boston University and Dr. Tony Hollenberg of Beth Israel, Anita’s lab advisers, said that she will be missed for her kindness and compassion. She was kind of a person whom everyone would want to be their surgeon.

Kotton said Anita has taken out best in me and Kotton’s team. A roadside memorial for her is taking place. Ling Yin, a scientist at Harvard Medical School, was of the view that they felt that she was one of them. For now, no charges have been filed against the driver who has hit and killed Kurmann.
