Plastiki completes its 8,000 voyage
Reports claim that Plastiki, a 60 foot vessel buoyed by over 12,000 2-liter plastic bottles, sailed into the Sydney Harbor marking the completion of its 130 day voyage.
It supposedly was an 8000 mile journey that started from San Francisco.
The journey involved a noble intention of environment enlightenment which was undertaken by British adventurer and environmentalist David de Rothschild who tried to evoke response drive for the awareness about the amount of plastic debris floating around in the world's oceans.
The repurposed bottles acted as buoyancy serving utilities, and apart from this recycled product the other part constitutes of ship's frame are made up of recyclable plastic, its mast comes from reclaimed aluminum, and its sail hand-made from recycled cloth.
The design includes solar panels, wind turbines, bicycle generators, a hydroponic garden, and a waste management system with "evaporative technology for weight reduction."
This Ship will be put on display at Sydney's Maritime Museum through August 1.
