Pakistan must act, not just give assurances: Mukherjee

India PakistanSrinagar, Dec. 16 : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday said that Pakistan must act on the demands made by India with regard to the investigations in last month''s terror attacks on Mumbai, and on the charges levelled by New Delhi thereof, rather than giving mere assurances.

Interacting with reporters here, Mukherjee said: "I have already said this in Parliament. Words (by Pakistan) must be followed up with action."

Pranab MukherjeeNew Delhi, Dec. 11 : Squarely laying the blame for last month’s terror attacks in Mumbai at Pakistan’s doorstep, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee told Parliament on Thursday that,” non state actors didn’t come from the heaven and the controllers and handlers of 26/11 were in the neighboring country at the time of incident.”

“We’ll tackle terror with patience, but nobody dare attack us .We will not be provoked into war, people expect India to act to protect itself. War is not a solution,” he said.

Pranab Mukherjee Terms The Hoax Calls As Diverting Tactics

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee denied having made any phone call to Pakistan President when Mumbai was under siege by terrorists, calling the hoax calls a means of diverting attention from India’s case that the Mumbai attacks had a Pakistani hand behind them.

“I have seen several misleading stories about a hoax telephone call from me to President Zardari of Pakistan,” Mr Mukherjee said in a statement.

“We were informed by friends from third countries that Pakistan President Zardari believed that he had received a threatening telephone call from me on Nov 28, after the attack on Mumbai. We immediately clarified to those friends, and we also made it clear to the Pakistan authorities, that I had made no such telephone call,” he said.

New Delhi  - Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday denied making a telephone call to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari in the immediate aftermath of the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

According Pakistan's The Dawn newspaper, the "hoax" call convinced many in Zardari's office that the "Indians had started beating the war drums."

Mukherjee, in his first comments on the matter, said, "It is, however, worrying that a neighbouring state might even consider acting on the basis of such a hoax call, try to give it credibility with other states, and confuse the public by releasing the story in part."

Pakistan trying to divert attention from terror attacks in India: Pranab MukherjeeNew Delhi, Dec. 7 : External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has condemned Pakistan in strong words clarifying his stance on the hoax call issue.

“I had made no such telephone call. My last and only conversation with President Asif Ali Zardari was in Islamabad during my visit to Pakistan in May 2006,” Mukherjee said in a statement released by the External Affairs Ministry today.

Pranab to visit Lanka

Pranab to visit LankaPrime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday decided to send External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee to Sri Lanka to press for a ceasefire between forces and LTTE and resumption of dialogue.

"I requested the Prime Minister to send Mukherjee to issue a strong warning to the Sri Lankan Government to announce a ceasefire immediately and to hold peaceful negotiations with them," said M. Karunanidhi at New Delhi after meeting Singh along with a multi-party delegation from the state.
