Charges of bribery sour Indian government's trust vote win

Singh's United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government won a confidence motion on Tuesday by 275 votes to 256, with 10 lawmakers abstaining.

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, July 21 : Senior Left party leaders today charged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of telling "blatant lies" during the trust vote debate in Parliament, and described his opening statement as "short and dull".

They also said that his address was a reflection of his "low confidence level".

"Singh''s statement is a reiteration of his belief in unilateralism. He violated the understanding by going ahead with nuclear deal when there was no agreement between parties on the issue," senior CPI (M) leader Nilotpal Basu.

During his brief speech, Dr. Singh said, "I had offered to all parties that we will come to Parliament before we go to the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) for implementing the nuclear deal.”
