PM asks Pak to hand over Mumbai terror ‘criminals’

Manmohan SinghShillong (Meghalaya), Jan. 3 : Following Pakistan's rejection to extradite any Pakistani national to India, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked Pakistan to hand over "criminals" responsible for the Mumbai attacks so that they can face trial in India.

Singh hoped that "some sense" would prevail in the Pakistani leadership and that it would recognise that those behind the "horrible acts" in Mumbai should to be brought to justice.

Manmohan Singh wants youngsters to lead scientific research

Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan. 3 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has urged the scientific industry of the nation to invest more in research and development to encourage more young and talented scientists.

"The best science is done by young people. Our institutions must be receptive to the needs of the young people. They must promote younger talent and allow youth to lead," Dr. Singh said inaugurating the 96th Indian Science Congress at the North Eastern Hill University campus in Shillong on Saturday.

"Seniority and age may be relevant in the bureaucratic system, but intellectual leaders, irrespective of age, must lead scientific institutions" he said.

Government sanctions Rs. 200,000 for Guwahati blast victims

Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Jan. 2 : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today sanctioned an ex-gratia amount of Rs. 200,000 to next of kin of those killed and Rs. 100,000 for the seriously injured in the Thursday's serial bomb blasts.

Dr. Singh has expressed grief over death of people in the three bomb blasts that took place at three places in Assam's capital.

Vice President, Prime Minister greet people on New Year

Second Economic Package Likely In Few WeeksThe Union Government may announce some fiscal measures in the form of a second economic stimulus package in a few days to propel the growth of economy.  It had earlier announced the first stimulus package on December 7 and taken various measures to mitigate the impact of global slowdown.
