Swat peace deal intact: Pak Presidency

TNSM has no control over Taliban’s splinter groups: ISPRIslamabad, Apr. 27 : Despite the military offensive in the Lower Dir region of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP), the Swat peace deal between the government and the Taliban is intact.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari's spokesperson, Farhatullah Babar, in a statement said : "The military's offensive in Lower Dir does not void the pact."

Militants attackIslamabad, Jan 22: At least five security personnel were killed and seven other were injured when militants have attacked a Pakistani security force fort in the troubled South Waziristan region on the Afghan border.

Pakistan military spokesman Major General Athar Abbas said that militants have attacked the Ladha fort and an observation post, adding that at least seven soldiers were wounded.

“Security forces retaliated with fire causing heavy casualties ... the attack was beaten back,” the BBC quoted Major General Abbas, as saying.
