New Delhi, Dec 22 : Deposing before a city court Tuesday, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh charged that a man posing as a law officer tried to extort Rs. 5 crore from him to settle a corruption case against Mulayam Singh Yadav two years ago.
Appearing before Metropolitan Magistrate Ashu Garg, Singh alleged that accused Barun Kumar Verma posed as a law officer of the law ministry and demanded the money to ensure a favourable order from an apex court judge.

Lucknow, Dec 5 :Restraining the Uttar Pradesh government from arresting Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, the Allahabad High Court Saturday, however, said the central government could proceed against him in a money laundering case registered against him.
A division bench comprising Justice Yatindra Singh and Justice Srikant Tripathi has fixed Jan 28 for the next hearing of the matter.

New Delhi, December 3 : Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, under fire from some colleagues over his remarks on the Firozabad by-poll, Thursday received full backing from party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, who praised his work and emphasised his position in the hierarchy.
"He is a leader who can take action against others," Mulyam Singh said, referring to reports that the party was unhappy over some of his remarks and could take action against him.
He also praised Amar Singh's efforts to popularise the party and his contribution to its growth.

New Delhi, Nov 30 : Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav Monday sought to make light of the remarks of party colleague Amar Singh that the party's defeat in the Firozabad Lok Sabha by-election was due to Mulayam Singh's over-confidence.
The Samajwadi Party chief said remarks of Amar Singh, a party general secretary, showed that the party has a democratic set-up.
"There is no other issue in this," Mulayam Singh said, responding to questions about Singh's remarks made in a TV interview.

New Delhi, Nov 3 : Taking a serious view of the non-appearance of Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh, a city court Tuesday issued a bailable arrest warrant against him for not deposing in a two-year-old case.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja issued the warrant against Singh against a bail amount of Rs. 10,000 for Dec 22. The court noted that Singh had earlier on two occasions failed to appear before it, citing various reasons.

Both Singh and Bachchan have said that they are being framed by the state government.

The petition was moved by lawyer Shiv Kant Tripathi, who had earlier this week lodged a first information report (FIR) in a Kanpur police station accusing Amar Singh of committing fraud through his alleged money laundering operations during his stint as chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Development Council when Mulayam Singh Yadav was chief minister of the state.
Tripathi had accused Amar Singh of siphoning off black money in the name of three dozen companies floated by him under his own name and that of his wife Pankaja Kumari Singh.

Kanpur, October 20 : Shiv Kant Tripathi, who has filed an economic offences case against high profile Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, Tuesday claimed to have received threats in phone calls from unlisted numbers.
"I have received several phone calls warning me of dire consequences simply because I dared to lodge a criminal case against Amar Singh for his involvement in a Rs. 500 crore scam," Tripathi told IANS.

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government on Saturday transferred the corruption case against Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh to the Kolkata police.
A complaint was lodged at a Kanpur police station that Singh, 53, created a string of shell companies and amalgamated them with six core firms controlled by him, mostly with addresses in Kolkata. The complainant, Shivakant Tripathi, said this was done to convert Singh’s “black money into white”.
Singh had denied the charges and threatened to sue UP Chief Minister Mayawati because he felt she was behind it.

Lucknow, Oct 18 - The Uttar Pradesh government Saturday decided to transfer the cases registered against Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh from Kanpur to Kolkata, an official said.
"Since all the cases (are) related to companies based in Kolkata, the UP police has no jurisdiction to initiate any investigation," state cabinet secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh told a press conference here.

Samajwadi Party to support UPA

New Delhi, May 19: Samajwadi Party (SP) General Secretary Amar Singh on Tuesday submitted a letter pledging support for the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil.
"I have been authorised and directed by the SP Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to offer our support for the formation of new UPA Government under the leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh," Amar Singh told reporters here.
The SP had extended outside support to the UPA Government after the Left parties pulled out over nuclear deal with the US last year.
