AMU To Honour Abdul Kalam With Doctorate Degree

For his devoted efforts in the arena of education as well as research, the Former Indian President Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam former Indian President Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam will be conferred honorary doctorate by the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) during its convocation later this month.

The University will also honor well-known agricultural scientist M.S. Swaminathan, industrialist Ratan Tata and IT-major Wipro’s CEO Azim Premji at the convocation.

Dr. Kalam will reach Aligarh a day before the convocation to spend some time with children studying at 50 schools in the city.

Pokhran tests strengthened India: KalamBhubaneswar, May 10 : Former President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam on Saturday said the Pokhran tests strengthened the nation.

Kalam who is on a two-day visit to Orissa said on the eve of tenth anniversary of Pokhran-II. . "It was a very important decision on the part of the Indian government to go for test explosion of nuclear devices on May 11, 1998," said Kalam.

At the time of the test explosions, Kalam was the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) chief and scientific advisor to the Prime Minister.

Conclude Nuke-deal says former president Dr. KalamBhubaneshwar, May 10 : Former President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam has favoured the Indo-US civil nuclear deal to boost country's nuclear energy programme. He rejected suggestions that the deal would undermine country's sovereignty.

Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Revenshaw University in Bhubaneshwar, Dr. Kalam said, "India required more uranium to carry forward its peaceful nuclear activities. A growing nation needed clean fuel to meet its energy demands."

He also said the country had plenty of thorium but very small reserve of uranium.

Kalam is visiting Canada to present the Global India Award, which has been instituted by the Canada India Foundation.

The award included plaque and 50,000 dollars, and is to be presented to Sam Pitroda for his outstanding contribution in the field of telecommunications.

Top Canadian politicians and other dignitaries, including India's High Commissioner to Canada, RL Narayan will attend the function.

Images of Leaders on eggs

Former President A.P.J. Abdul KalamTirupur (Tamil Nadu), Mar 25: Anandan, an artist hails from this textile town in Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu, has created images of leaders on egg shells aiming to open a museum dedicated to art on egg shells.

Anandan got inspiration after he was encouraged by Former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam to make his sculpture from bamboo.

After having made several sculptures from bamboo, he got the idea of making artistic creations out of egg shells.
