Penalty for unlawful phone tapping

DOTThere have been discussions over taking action against the 'phone-tapping' and making conversations public without authorization. The Telecom Ministry has charged a fine of up to Rs. 2 crore on illegal tapping.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has received a message that, the obligation of a fine will be charged from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2 crore as planned by the Department of Telecom (DoT). This has been done in favour of violations under different sections of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.

The telegraph officers or other officials have been banned because of breaking of Section 26 of the Act. The highest fine has been charged for making away with or changing, dishonestly stop or reveal messages, or divulging the purport of signals.

It has been stated in the offered Act that if there is any violation of this section then one shall be sentenced, up to three years, along with a fine of Rs. 500.

The planned modification will soon be available in the Parliament to the Indian Telegraph Act.
