PDP supporters protest against EC’s decision in J-K
Srinagar, Apr 27: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) supporters took to streets on Monday to protest against the cancellation of an Election Commission (EC) notification for holding bye-polls in the Hazratbal parliamentary constituency.
Chanting slogans against the National Conference-led state government and the EC, PDP activists marched through the streets of Srinagar, to voice their anger at the EC’s decision.
The supporters gathered outside the EC office and accused the commission of siding with the National Conference (NC) candidate.
“Instead of canceling the nomination papers of Mustafa Kamal, the Election Commission has cancelled the elections itself. What kind of justice is this? Those who were guilty got a bonanza and those innocent have been punished,” said Asiya Naqash, PDP’s candidate for Hazratbal constituency.
Elections in Hazratbal constituency were necessitated after the MP Farooq Abdullah resigned to contest the elections of the Rajya Sabha from the state.
The notification for the Hazratbal assembly had been cancelled by the EC on April 23 after finding that the returning officer had wrongly accepted the nomination papers of a candidate belonging to state''s ruling National Conference (NC) party. (ANI)
