Palcohol Wins Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau Approval in US
The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau has granted approval to Palcohol, a form of powdered alcohol in the US. The four flavors of approved Palcohol are likely to hit the stores by the end of this year.
Mark Phillips, the creator of a Phoenix-based company that will come up with the product soon posted a video on YouTube and explained what first sparked the idea.
Phillips said, "When I hike, kayak, backpack or whatever, I like to have a drink when I reach my destination. And carrying liquid alcohol and mixers to make a margarita for instance was totally impractical. So that's why I created Palcohol".
The drink has a very simple recipe with one pack equaled to one shot. You need to pour the contents into 6 ounces of water and stir.
Dr. Frank Lovecchio, the co-medical director of the Banner Good Samaritan Poison and Drug Information Center, said that if the drink is used in a planned way than it's as safe as alcohol. But as a medical toxicologist he added that don't always do things as directed.
He feared that this could be abused easily as once to take more than one packets, you will not be able to know how much you're taking.
Five states have banned the product Palcohol due to its high risk of abuse, while others are in view of restrictions.
There were many dangers that were used by the critics to ban the product, but Phillips didn't agree to them. He continued to say that the powder doesn't cause any more danger as compared to alcohol in its liquid form. A lot of parents are worried that the product will be abused by the teens.
