Pak captain, coach to get ‘enough room’ in team’s selection procedures: Qadir
Karachi, Feb. 5 : Learning from its past mistakes, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to give captain Younis Khan and coach Intikhab Alam an opportunity to have their say in the selection procedure for the national squad.
PCB chief Abdul Qadir said that both the captain and the coach of the team would be consulted while selecting the team for the forthcoming assignments.
Qadir said he is willing to give new captain Younis Khan `enough room' in selection matters, in a bid to minimise friction between the national selectors and team management that has hurt Pakistan cricket previously.
He said the idea behind giving the captain an opportunity to put his brain in the selection process was to select the best possible team each time.
"As long as the best team is selected, I don't mind if the captain and coach have their say," The News quoted Qadir, as saying.
However, he made it clear that the authority to select the team for home games would rest with the selection committee.
"On home tours, the final selection of playing eleven for the match shall rest with the selection committee. However, the captain and coach shall be consulted on the issue for their input," Qadir added.
It may be re-called that right after being appointed captain of the national team, Younis Khan had said that he would like to have a say in selection process of the Pakistan team, if the Board wanted Pakistan to regain the top spot in the international rankings. (ANI)
