Omar aide may be sacked for professional misconduct
In a major embarrassment for J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his advisor Mubarak Gul has been accused of working as a government contractor. He now faces disqualification for professional misconduct.
According to a report in a local English daily on Monday, Gul’s ‘Gulistan Production’ was allotted a Rs 18 lakh-contract to produce a six-episode Kashmiri series Azla Lone (destiny). The Opposition raised the issue on Monday.
“It is a professional misconduct and Gul could be disqualified for it. Now, it is up to the speaker to take whatever action he deems fit,” said B. S. Slathia, former president of Jammu Bar Association.
Gul says the allotment happened three years ago, when he was not an elected legislator. But according to available information, Gul was an elected legislator from Idgah constituency of Srinagar then.
“There is no chance that I have signed the contract,” Gul told HT. In a text message to HT, the CM said, “I have nothing to say about the issue. You must ask Mubarak Gul or the speaker.”
