Norwegian crown princess extends sick leave over concussion

Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-MaritOslo - Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit's physician has advised her to cancel public engagements for the coming two weeks, the palace said Monday.

The princess sustained a minor concussion after falling down some stairs during a visit to Ukraine last month, and has since been on sick leave.

The medical recommendation means that the princess will miss out on the upcoming functions to mark the 60th birthday of Britain's Prince Charles.

Norwegian Queen Sonja and Crown Prince Haakon were slated to attend the celebrations next week of the heir to the British throne.

The 35-year-old princess fell on October 20 during a visit to a support group for people living with HIV/Aids. Her visit to Ukraine was in her capacity as a goodwill ambassador for the joint United Nations programme, UNAIDS. (dpa)
