Tata Motors' July sale down 30 percent

Tata-MotorsMumbai, August 1 : Automobile giant Tata Motors Thursday reported a 29.96 percent fall in sales for July this year at 51,468 units from 73,491 units sold in the corresponding month of 2012.

In the domestic market, the company reported a 31.23 percent decline in sales of its commercial and passenger vehicles at 47,191 units from 68,627 units sold in July last year.

Segment-wise, the commercial vehicles sales in domestic market fell by 14.20 percent at 36,367 units from 42,387 units sold in July, 2012.

South Korean automakers's sales rise

South Korean automakers's sales riseSeoul, August 1 : Global car sales of South Korean automakers rose last month due to a rebound in the local sales and continued overseas demand, industry data showed Thursday.

The country's five automakers - Hyundai, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Samsung and SsangYong - sold a total of 642,979 vehicles in July, up by 3.4 percent from last year.

Robust car demand in the domestic market led to an upsurge in car sales in the month of July. Local car sales expanded 2.9 percent from a year earlier to reach this year's high of 124,963 units, Xinhua reported.

Scotland expecting growth in business partnerships with India

India-Scotland-FlagKolkata, August 1 : With over 100 Scottish firms forging business partnerships with Indian companies last year, a Scottish governmental agency Thursday said it is expecting a surge of 30 percent in the number of such collaborations in the 2013-14 fiscal.

"With 116 Scottish companies establishing partnerships with Indian companies in FY 12-13, which is an increase of 30 percent over the previous year, we expect the same rate of growth in the number of such companies by the end of FY 13-14," said Rooma Kumar Bassi, director-north and east India, Scottish Development International (SDI).

Swimmer Sun Yang claims second gold at worlds

Sun-YangBarcelona, August 1 : Sun Yang wrote his name in the record books of the World Swimming Championships when he became only the second man to defend his gold medal in the 800 metres freestyle with a comfortable victory at the Palau St. Jordi here.

Sun Yang swam the fastest time of the year (7:41.36) Wednesday to finish 2.27 seconds ahead of American Michael McBroom, who was a second ahead of Canada's Ryan Cochrane. The Chinese led the race from start to finish but was content to maintain a lead of around a metre until around 150 metres from the finish when he upped his pace to stretch out his lead, reports Xinhua.

Hero MotoCorp's July sales up marginally

Hero-MotoCorpNew Delhi, August 1 : Two-wheeler major Hero MotoCorp Thursday reported a marginal increase of 0.68 percent in its sales for July, which stood at 487,545 units from an off-take of 484,217 units sold in the corresponding month of 2012.

The company said it has bucked the trend of an overall slowdown in the industry by this performance.

"We have registered a retail growth of seven percent in the month of July which is usually a lean period due to monsoon all over the country," Anil Dua, senior vice-president, marketing and sales, Hero MotoCorp, said in a statement.
