New Delhi, Aug 21 : A total of 6,000 vials of yellow fever vaccine were distributed in India in July to tide over its shortage, the Lok Sabha was informed.

In addition, the government ordered for 2.57 lakh doses from the World Health Organisation, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said Tuesday.

The first consignment of 128,530 doses was received at the Central Research Institute at Kasauli in Himachal Pradesh.

Earlier, travellers to yellow fever affected countries were told to buy the vaccine from the market.

Mumbai, Aug 21 : The Indian rupee Wednesday continued in the free-fall mode hitting a new record low of 64.25 against a dollar, despite interventions from the central bank and the government.

The rupee has touched new lows for the fourth session in a row.

The partially-convertible rupee slipped to a new record low of 64.25 against a dollar at the inter-bank foreign exchange market here, surpassing its previous record low of 64.13 hit Tuesday.

Bangalore, Aug 21 : Stars born billions of years ago emit signals, and a specialised radio telescope can capture such signals. Indian astronomers have been part of an international team building such radio telescopes to increase our knowledge of the early universe.

Four astronomers of the Raman Research Institute (RRI) in Bangalore participated in building a new radio telescope in Australia to track and receive signals from distant stars and galaxies, which emerged at cosmic dawn, 13 billion years ago.

Capital market regulator Sebi on Tuesday proposed some noteworthy changes in the way listed companies disclose or report their financial results and audit notes.

Sebi proposed that all listed companies be made to report all figures in their financial statements in `Rs Crore' till 2 decimal points. Currently, different companies report financial figures in different formats, such as lakhs, millions etc, which create confusion.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday announced its decision to buy long-term government bonds worth Rs 80 billion (nearly $1.3bn) to pump more liquidity into the country's banking system.

The central bank said that it would buy government bonds through open market purchase operations (OMOs) route on 23rd of August.

The decision was announced just a few days after the RBI announced measures to tighten liquidity as part of its efforts to arrest the rupee's fall.
