New York, Aug 24 : India's Somdev Devvarman entered the men's singles main draw at the US Open tennis tournament defeating Briton James Ward in the qualifiers.

World No. 113 Devvarman got past his 175th-ranked opponent 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in a match lasting two hours and 15 minutes Friday. The Indian plays 85th-ranked Lukas Lacko of Slovakia in the opening round at Flushing Meadows.

Devvarman had to win three matches to advance in the last Grand Slam of the year. He Thursday beat American Robby Ginepri, a former semifinalist here.

Mumbai, Aug 24 : Superstar Shah Rukh Khan often tells his daughter Suhana that if she decides to date someone, he should be like him.

"I am a good man to love. I am very decent, loving, educated and caring. I would tell my daughter, that if she was to find a boyfriend, apart from my anger sometimes, she must find a boyfriend like me," Shah Rukh said.

Bangalore, Aug 24 : Ramya, who was Saturday elected to Lok Sabha from Mandya constituency in Karnataka, is the first female actor from the state to enter parliament.

Fielded by the ruling Congress, she defeated C. S. Puttaraju of Janata Dal-Secular in the bypoll held Aug 21. Mandya is about 80 kms from Bangalore. This was her maiden electoral foray.

Glamorous Ramya is considered the "golden girl" of Kannada cinema as she has given several hits.

She has also acted in a few Tamil and Telugu films.

Mumbai, Aug 24 : Finance Minister P. Chidambaram Saturday discussed the volatility of the rupee and the macro-economic situation with top bankers and foreign investors separately, and assured them that the government would take all possible steps to ensure stability in the market and capital inflows.

Chidambaram was accompanied by top officials including economic affairs secretary Arvind Mayaram and financial services secretary Rajiv Takru at the meeting. He sought feedback from the participants about their concerns over what was happening in the country’s financial markets.

New Delhi, Aug 24 : A state-of-the art National Media Centre comparable to those in capitals across the world was inaugurated Saturday, with an impressive conference hall, workplace for the media, a library, cafeteria and high-speed internet.

The four-storied Rs. 60 crore facility, built over three years, is located at the heart of the capital, on Raisina Road - with many important government buildings a stone's throw away and in the vicinity of the Parliament House and Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Mumbai, Aug 24 : India's foreign exchange (forex) reserves increased by $205.8 million to $278.80 billion for the week ended Aug 16, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The reserves had increased by $1.43 billion to $278.60 billion for the week ended Aug 9.

The foreign currency assets (FCA) - the biggest component of the forex reserves - grew by $211.7 million at $251.56 billion, the weekly statistical supplement of the central bank showed.

The FCA had grown by $1.45 billion at $251.34 billion in the previous week.
