French-nuclear-related-cartoonTokyo, Sep 12 : The Japanese government Thursday said it will lodge a formal complaint about a cartoon published in a French weekly newspaper depicting sumo wrestlers with extra limbs in front of the Fukushima nuclear power plant.

Government officials said the satirical caricature was "tasteless" and seemingly aimed at the decision to grant Tokyo the 2020 Summer Olympics amid an ongoing nuclear crisis at the Fukushima complex located 150 km northeast of the capital city, Xinuua reported.

India's industrial output grew by 2.6 percent in July

India-industrialNew Delhi, Sep 12 : The industrial output for July grew by 2.6 percent over the corresponding month of the previous year, government data showed here Thursday.

The factory output, measured in terms of Index of Industrial Production (IIP), however, contracted 2.2 percent in June.

The three sectors that constitute the index are mining, manufacturing and electricity.

The indices of industrial production for the mining, manufacturing and electricity sectors for the month of July 2013 stood at 117.0, 182.7 and 164.5, respectively.

Air-PollutionBeijing, Sep 12 : China aims to cut down its coal consumption to under 65 percent of its overall primary energy use by 2017 in a government action plan to cut down on air pollution.

Several initiatives have been envisaged in the action plan, unveiled Thursday, as part of the country's efforts to readjust its energy structure and increase clean energy supply, Xinhua reported citing the central government's website.

New projects in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and both the Yangtze Delta and the Pearl River Delta regions will be banned from setting up their own coal-fired power plants.
