X-Class Solar Flare of Sun Triggers Radio Blackout in Several Areas across Globe

The U.S. space agency NASA has revealed that it has recently captured images of a strong flare erupting from the surface of the sun.

The agency said that the X-class solar flare from the sun’s surface was the strongest category of sun storm noticed in 2015.

As per experts, solar flares are intense emissions of radiations spewed from the sun’s surface. These flares have the capability to disrupt the global positioning, radio, and satellite signals, but cannot penetrate earth’s atmosphere.

As per the details released by NASA, the rare image of the solar flares were captured on March 11, 2015, and peaked at 16:22 GMT.

Census of World’s Marine Species unveils Discovery of 1,000 new Fish Species Since 2008

The discovery of about 1,000 new fish species since 2008 has been reported by a census of the world’s marine species. Researchers put in efforts to review all databases to gather one definitive list of existing information of sea life known as World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS).

WoRMS co-chair Jan Mees, Chair of the European Marine Board and Director of the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) in Belgium, said that WoRMS wants to make a master list of all organisms that have ever been noticed and described in the world oceans.

Mees also said that the work is almost completed and all the historical data have been entered in the database. Experts have identified the redundant names. Eight years have been utilized by researchers in order to combine the existing databases.

China’s Yutu Rover Unveils Moon’s Hidden Layers

The latest results from China's first lunar rover have suggested that the moon's past was more active complex than previously thought.

China's Yutu moon rover has found a proof of at least nine different rock layers deep under its wheels, which indicated that the area was surprisingly geologically active over the past 3.3 billion years.

Long Xiao, lead author of the new study, a researcher at the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan, said they have found two interesting factors about Moon.

New Protective Coating may help Develop New Renewable Source of Energy

Researchers have developed an electrically conductive film that can aid devices having the ability to use sunlight and split water into hydrogen fuel.

Study’s co-author Nathan Lewis of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) said, “We have developed a new type of protective coating that enables a key process in the solar-driven production of fuels to be performed with record efficiency, stability and effectiveness”.

The system also ensures safety and does not lead to the production of hazardous mixtures of hydrogen and oxygen. The researchers affirmed that the development is a significant one and could lead to the efficient artificial photosynthetic systems, which are also known as solar-fuel generators or artificial leaves.
