Safety Regulators will not cite Elephant Keeper's Death

A caretaker of an elephant sanctuary had died after apparently being stepped on. According to reports, owners of the elephant sanctuary will not be cited by federal workplace safety regulators.

On March 4, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) wrote a letter to Hope Elephants, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rehabilitation and conservation of elephant. In the letter, the agency of the United States Department of Labor recommended that workers should not be in the same unrestricted space as elephants except in rare circumstances. On Friday, the letter was given to The Associated Press.

NASA: Jupiter's Moon Ganymede has Huge Underground Ocean

NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope scientists, on 12th of March, have confirmed that Jupiter’s moon Ganymede has an ocean under its icy surface, and it may contain life.

NASA’s findings have resolved a mystery about the largest moon in the solar system following NASA’s now-defunct Galileo spacecraft, which had previously, during the exploration of Jupiter and its moons from 1995 to 2003, provided hints that Ganymede has a subsurface ocean.

Scientists have revealed that just like Earth, Ganymede too has a liquid iron core that generates a magnetic field, though Ganymede’s field is embedded within Jupiter’s magnetic field. This leads to a set up of an interesting dynamic with tell-tale visuals, twin bands of glowing aurora around Ganymede’s northern and southern polar region.

Police Shootings Show Need for Mental Health Training

Atlanta police, on Monday, March 10, have fatally shot down a 27-year-old unarmed, black man Anthony Hill.

The killing was quite similar to the shooting death of Kajieme Powell in St. Louis, when police fatally shot a man clearly showing signs of mental incapacities. They shot him when his neighbors reported police that he was naked and was jumping continually from his two-story apartment balcony.

In the case of Anthony, the police chief has asserted that the officer involved in the shooting had received "mental health" training.

But people believe that if Atlanta police were more informed on mental health, illness and how to engage and assist those struggling with mental health difficulties, then Anthony Hill would have been alive.

Mathematics Lovers celebrating Pi Day

Pi Day is an annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant pi. On Saturday, at about 9:27 am, scientists and mathematicians around the world celebrated the one-in-100-year event in a bizarre manner.

Usually, the International Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 at 1:59 am. The first six digits of the date and time denote the number pi, which is 3.14159, in the United States date format. The event occurs once in a century. This year, the event falls on 14 March. While several pi enthusiasts have decided to celebrate the event at the traditional time, many have already celebrated it at 9:27 am. According to them, the time denotes eight digits of the world's most recognizable mathematical symbols (3.1415927).

NASA launches Four Spacecraft to Unravel Magnetic Mystery

In a bid to study the explosive give-and-take of the earth and sun's magnetic fields, NASA launched four identical spacecraft on Thursday. It’s a billion dollar mission and began with the flight of the unmanned Atlas rocket – and NASA’s Magnetospheric Multiscale spacecraft - into a clear-night sky. The launch took place on scheduled time.

NASA has planned to put the four spacecraft into an oblong orbit into the magnetosphere. The orbit stretches tens of thousands of miles into the magnetosphere. The spacecraft are being instructed to fly in pyramid formation, between 6 miles and 250 miles apart. This will help NASA researchers to get access to 3-D views of magnetic reconnection on the smallest of scales.
