Researchers invent Infrared Laser to cool Things Down

You may have seen lasers in many movies melting metals or huge vehicles, but have you ever heard of a laser than can refrigerate water? Researchers from the University of Washington claimed they have invented an infrared laser that can be used to cool things down.

Earlier, the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences published a new study which showed that the University of Washington researchers developed a laser that can cool water by approximately 20 degrees Celsius, or 36 degrees Fahrenheit. The researchers said the new research will a huge breakthrough in the arena of infrared lasers.

Swedish Researchers develop World’s First e-rose

Swedish researchers have successfully created an e-rose for the first time. They implanted some circuits in the vascular system of the rose. According to the researchers from the Linkoping University, they have tasted success in developing analog and digital electronics circuits inside plants.

The team of researchers led by Magnus Berggren, a professor at the Linkoping University, used living roses' vascular system to develop components of electronic circuits. A researcher of the team said it is the first time when an electronic circuit has been produced in living plants.

Three New Ebola cases confirmed in Liberia

Health officials have said that three new cases of Ebola have been found in Liberia. A 10-year-old boy in Paynesville, a suburb of the capital, Monrovia, and his two immediate family members have tested positive for the virus.

It is a big shock for Liberia as it was officially announced Ebola-free. On May 9, Liberia was declared Ebola-free but in June, new cases have been detected. These three patients along with three others were taken to an Ebola treatment center outside Monrovia.

On September 3, the World Health Organization has declared the West African country free from Ebola. Bruce Aylward, WHO’s Ebola response team head, has said that for now it is not known how the boy contracted the disease.

Healthy Diet for one person may not be healthy for another: Study

A research paper by scientists in Israel has unveiled that it is not necessary that if a diet plan is doing wonders for one person then it would do the same for another as well. It is because people metabolize the same food products in different manners.

Researchers Eran Elinav and Eran Segal of the Weizmann Institute of Science said rather than suggesting the same diet plans to everyone, it would be better to recommend a personalized nutrition plan to people.

Segal said one of the factors that obesity rate is not going down is because that wrong advice was being passed to people to shed weight. In order to know how food is digested, the researchers enrolled 800 people and followed them for a week.

NASA officially places order with SpaceX to take astronauts to ISS

Friday was indeed a big day for SpaceX as NASA has officially placed an order to it for a manned mission to the International Space Station in 2017. Similar contract was given to Boeing in May. Dragon spacecraft will be used to take astronauts and cargo to the ISS and will remain there for seven months and then would make a comeback on earth.

The announcement was not a surprise for SpaceX as NASA has already unveiled that it would be placing an order with SpaceX in this year. But it was a bit of relaxation for SpaceX, as it has faced a severe accident in June in which its Falcon 9 rocket fell apart.

In 2014, NASA has given contracts to SpaceX and Boeing to build rockets to carry astronauts to the ISS from 2017. For now, NASA is dependent on Russia to take its astronauts to the ISS.

Never-before-seen icy cloud spotted on Titan

A new finding has been made by NASA’s Cassini spacecraft. It has spotted a massive-sized icy cloud at the south pole of Saturn’s moon Titan. It is the first time that such a cloud, which is the part of a cloud system called the south polar vortex, has been spotted there.

After coming to know about the icy cloud, scientists are of the view that winter in the southern hemisphere of Titan will be colder than they have considered before. Carrie Anderson, of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, thinks that the newly spotted feature is a brand new one.
