Chipotle Co-CEO issues First Apology on TV for Food Crisis

In an attempt to improve the public image of the restaurant chain, Steve Ells, the co- Chief Executive Officer and founder of Chipotle Mexican Grill, has issued the first apology on television to patrons who were sickened after eating at the company’s restaurants in different states.

In a statement, Ells said that the company is ‘deeply sorry’ about those loyal people who eat at the chain in recent weeks and fell ill. While apologizing on behalf of the Denver headquartered restaurant company, the 49-year-old Chipotle said that the company is working to implement new policies.

Study claims Moderate Daily Drinking cuts Death Risk in Early Stage Alzheimer's

Patient of Alzheimer's disease may reduce their risk of death in early stages of the disease by drinking about three to four alcoholic drinks, according to a new study in the journal BMJ Open.

The study, Danish Alzheimer's Intervention Study (DAISY), examined approximately 321 people with Alzheimer's disease. About 17% participants drank just 2 to 3 units of alcohol per day, while more than 70% drank alcohol occasionally. Just 8% subjects never drank alcohol. The study found that participants who were drinking alcohol everyday were more than 75% more likely to stay alive for about 36 months later compared to the subject who drank occasionally.

Sale of Antibiotics Approved For Use in Livestock Went Up In US

According to a recent data released by federal regulators, the sale of medically important antibiotics that have been given approval for use in livestock increased by 23% between 2009 and 2014 in United States.

Federal regulators said the data is alarming and has raised concerns among officials about the harm to humans from antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The data showed that in the last year alone, the domestic sale and distribution of such drugs increased by 3%.

Public health advocates along with some lawmakers and scientists have since long criticized the long-standing practice of using antibiotics in livestock. They have argued that that it is fueling the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Dogs Have Conscience, Confirms Study

Researchers, through a recent study, claim that they have a scientific proof to prove that canines and many other animals have canine, which means that they actually know who they are.

According to the researchers, the only proof of having a consciousness of self is evaluated on the individual’s ability to use his/ her own reflection to notice and touch the presence of a mark applied under anaesthesia or during a period of distraction on face, head or other parts of the body.

The researchers, for their study, carried out a test known as ‘mirror test’. The same experiment has been done many times with children and chimpanzees and they easily identify themselves into the mirror and touch the mark left by the investigator on their body.

Johnson & Johnson Establishes ‘Verb Surgical Inc’ in Collaboration with Google

Johnson & Johnson recently announced that it has joined hand with Google to form a new independent company. The new company will aim to make robotic-assisted systems that could be used for surgery.

The announcement about the formation of the new company, Verb Surgical Inc., was made on Thursday by Johnson & Johnson. The tools developed in the company will reduce costs in order to help improve the standard of healthcare.

Google’s research unit which was earlier known as Google Life Sciences was changed to Verily Life Sciences LLC, after the announcement of its collaboration with J&J in March.

People with Mental Illness More Likely to be Killed by Police

Researchers, through a recently conducted study, have found that people battling with mental illness are at higher chances of being killed by police. The findings were released in a report by the Virginia-based Treatment Advocacy Center.

Co-author of the report and the executive director of the Treatment Advocacy Center, John Snook, said the problem here lies in the training given to police, also lack of treatment for those with mental illness.

According to the report released on Thursday, people with mental illnesses do not get treatment until their behavior attracts the attention of police.
