Bad Weather prevents NASA from Launching ISS Cargo Rocket; Next Try will be on Friday

On Thursday, bad weather delayed the launch of an Orbital ATK Inc. rocket to the International Space Station (ISS). Now, the resupply mission has been rescheduled to take off on Friday.

The mission to the space station is the first of the enhanced Cygnus, which will take about 7,700 pounds, or 3,500 kilograms, of cargo for astronauts living aboard the habitable artificial satellite in low Earth orbit.

Mike Pinkston, program manager of the Antares rocket, said in a statement that he was excited yet nervous about the company’s space station missions. He also said that the company is confident about the rocket. NASA has now scheduled the launch for Friday at 4:33 pm.

Artificial intelligence researchers applied human learning techniques to a computer program and found that the program performed better than humans. According to them, the breakthrough will be helpful for humans in the future.

Earlier, researchers tested a computer program and found that it could understand and recognize approximately 50 handwritten languages, including Gujarati, Tibetan, Sanskrit and Glagolitic. According to the researchers, it was a successful test, which proved that machines are better than humans when it comes to recognizing the figures.

Black Bear Hunting: Annual Cull in New Jersey to continue this Week

Last week wasn’t good enough for bear population in New Jersey as hunting season started amid protests by animal rights activists. Official figures show that the state’s 18% bear population has been killed by hunters this season.

Like last year, hundreds of bears have been killed this year too. New Jersey officials said this hunting season, in an effort to curb’s black bear population in the state, more than 470 bears have been nabbed. They also said that the killing will continue this week.

State environmental officials said the decision to hunt black bears was taken about five year ago to control the animal’s population in northwestern New Jersey. The population has reached 3,500 bears today compared with just 100 more than four decades ago, they added.

NASA said its Curiosity Mars rover has finally reached the first Martian sand dune and captured some close-up images of the dunes’ sand grains. It is the first close encounter with a sand dune on any planet other than our home planet.

Curiosity captured new images with its Mars Hand Lens Imager (MAHLI) camera. Now, it will collect some samples from the sand dunes and study them using its laboratory instruments. It will investigate how the area has changed over the time. According to NASA, the car-sized robotic rover has started examining the sand dunes on the Red Planet.

Three ISS Astronauts return to Earth in Tiny Soyuz Capsule

A three-member crew, wedged elbow to elbow in a capsule, has safely returned from the International Space Station (ISS) after a five-month mission. The tiny Soyuz capsule carrying the astronauts softly landed on earth on Friday night.

The land location was in the northeast of Dzhezkazgan town in Kazakhstan. The three astronauts who came back to earth are: NASA’s Kjell Lindgren, JAXA’s Kimiya Yui andRussian Federation Space Agency’s Oleg Kononenko. It was the first time when a crewed-capsule returned from the space station after sunset.

When the capsule landed safely, the trio was placed in helicopters, and was immediately taken formedical exams. It was Lindgren and Yui’s first mission on the ISS, whileKononenko has visited the space station once before.
