Comet Catalina to Speed Past Earth, Astronomers say ‘Don’t Miss the Rare Opportunity’

Good news for space enthusiasts: Comet Catalina is expected to speed past earth through January 17. Starting from the very first day of 2016, the comet, formally known as C/2013 US10, could be seen with a pair of binoculars.

Astronomers said the comet could be seen lighting the northern hemisphere’s dark sky with a double tail and greenish glow. They recommend skywatchers not to miss the opportunity as the comet could embark on a journey of billions of years after zooming past our home planet.

Activists criticize New Jersey’s Plan to Expand Bear Hunting Season

More than 500 bears have been killed this New Jersey bear hunting season so far, still organizers are planning to expand the tradition this year. Animal lovers and some activist groups have vowed to continue their fight against the bear management policy.

There are reports that the state will add six days in October to bear hunting season. As per a statement by the state wildlife officials, three days will be allotted for bow hunting, while the rest added days will be for muzzle-loading guns and bows and arrows hunting.

Battle of the babies: NYC Hospitals fight Over Which Hospital Had First Birth Of 2016

Hospitals all over New York City were waiting to see which hospital will be lucky enough to welcome the first birth of the 2016 on the New Year’s Eve. But wait, here’s a problem: two New York hospitals are now fighting over which hospital had the first baby of 2016.

Early on Friday, New York City Health and Hospitals announced that it had welcomed the first baby of 2016. The baby born at the hospital is a baby boy named Zayden Noel. Hospital claims Zayden was born exactly midnight at Coney Island Hospital.

But after a few hours, Northwell Health’s Long Island Jewish Medical Center in eastern Queens in a conference to highlight the New York’s first baby of 2016. The hospital even attached a proof in a photograph of in-utero fetal monitoring showing the boy was born at exactly 12 am.

First case of Mosquito-borne Zika Virus reported in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico reported that it has found the first case of Zika virus. Zika virus is an illness which gets transmitted by mosquitoes. The illness has caused a number of birth defects in Brazil.

Puerto Rico’s Health Secretary Ana Rius said in a statement on Thursday that the unidentified patients had not travelled recently and lives in the island’s eastern region.

Symptoms of the illness include slight fever, headache and joint pain in the hands and feet. As per health officials, symptoms of the Zika virus infection are very much similar to that of people infected with two mosquito-borne illnesses dengue fever and chikungunya.

CDC: Latest E. coli cases involve people who ate at Chipotle Mexican Grill in Shawnee

On Monday, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment said that one E. coli illness case has been reported in Johnson County, along with one case in North Dakota. It said that both the cases involved people who consumed food at the Chipotle Mexican Grill in Shawnee.

The information about the new illnesses has been released by the CDC as part of an update on the wider outbreak. But, that person hasn’t reported consuming food at Chipotle.

Later, Chipotle said that its fourth-quarter comparable-restaurant sales are likely to see 8-10% drop, in comparison to a year earlier, marking the company’s first decline in its history.

All 5 sickened customers have mentioned that they ate at Chipotle between November 18- 26 or nearly 7 days before they fell ill.

Blue Bell Creameries facing criminal investigation by US Department of Justice

A US official has confirmed to CNN that the US Department of Justice has carried out a criminal investigation in Blue Bell Creameries for the company’s handling of the ice cream contamination associated with 10 reported cases of listeriosis.

Among the reported cases, three, who were believed to have got sickened by Blue Bell frozen treats, have died. Prosecutors have been examining whether the executives of the company have committed wrongdoing while handling the outbreak or not. No response has been given by Blue Bell Creameries to CNN's request for comment.
